We are excited to be included in the a special issue of Journal of Research on Technology and Education on Personalization in Technology-Enhanced Learning Environments. In this article, we describe the evolution of iSTART from its start as an in-person intervention, Self-Explanation Reading Training (SERT), up to its current iteration as a game-based intelligent system. We then describe out latest endeavor, adding a layer of adaptive text/task selection to self-explanation practice.
